Caught With Their Pants Down

For people who insist that Sens. Tom DeLay and Bill Frist are not acting for their own selfish reasons when it comes to Terry Schiavo, The Peach would like to direct you to this ariticle and audiotape being circulated by Americans United For Separation Of Church And State. The tape was made during a closed door "Washington Briefing" with the Family Research Council, a well known defender and member of the Religious Right. In the tape, Delay associates the Schiavo conflict as just another example of how "the other side" is attacking conservatives, singling out himself and investigations into his political ethics. He went on to say that "a whole syndicate" of "do-gooder forces" were against him "in a huge nationwide concerted effort to destroy everything we believe in."

Meanwhile, Frist associated this battle with the need to confirm "good judges," protecting the "sanctity of marriage" and "protecting the unborn." He went on to express the need for a Federal Marriage Amendment saying "We will take action to preserve and protect and defend the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman."

The Peach finds this to be more Republican hypocrisy. If they are so willing to protect the "sanctity of marriage" why aren't they protecting the rights of Terry Schiavo's husband Michael and respect his wishes to have her feeding tube removed? Isn't that something they should be preserving, protecting and defending? The Peach pities Terry Schiavo, her parents and all those people fighting for her. They have been duped into believing the Republican party really cares. The only time they care is when it furthers their own political agenda.
